(Heading back? Yes, after finding out what they actually charge you for going through the Corinth Canal - EUR 200 for a 2-mile passage - the southern Pelopponese return route sounded very appealing all of a sudden.)
It´s just under 300 miles back to Lefkas in straight lines, not taken in account any tacking we will have to do. It doesn't seen that far when you compare it to all the miles we have done this year, yet it´s not going to be an easy trip. Not only will we be sailing against the prevailing winds, we also have shorter days and the winter weather seems to have set in. Cold, wet days seem to be more often the normal then sunny warm ones. Our journey started yesterday, leaving Navplion. After a day of sailing and motoring we managed to get to Leonidhion, just a mere 25 miles off the trip. Our aim today is to reach Monemvasia, another 35 miles, which will leave us just 15 miles from Ak Maleas, before heading west and passing the three headlands that make up the fingers of the southern Peloponnese. At this point our bow will point north the whole way until we reach our destination. We’re hoping to make the whole trip within two weeks, taking into account that we will have to wait for the right weather windows.
