Due to a chronic lack of storage room we came up with this great idea to have proper cupboards built in our front berth. So Vic approached several English carpenters who live in the Lefkas area for a quote. The first one had a look and gave us a price (to which we agreed), to double that the next week when he came back. The second one had a look and didn´t even want to give a price, just said that it would cost some and more. A young Greek carpenter didn’t have the time to do the job, so in the end we decided to do it ourselves. A pattern was made out of cheap plywood and then drawn on marine plywood. The mentioned Greek carpenter agreed to cut the pieces. We had to wait for over a week, but could finally pick up our cupboards to be. Of course it was pissing down that morning, so we had to wrap the two long pieces of wood in canvas and carry them between us while dressed in our foul weather gear and Wellies.
It all fitted nicely, so Vic could start the serious work: drilling holes. The point of no return….
The stain we purchased worked out to be a disaster, so that had to be removed again. Why is it always so hard to find proper products in Greece?
Anyway. at this point, all the wood is back to its original color after a proper sanding and is hopefully ready for some proper stain and then varnish. To be continued……..
